Alfred Hitchcock’s Catch a Thief, a 1955 classic with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, won an Oscar for photography and also inspired the design of this colorful and luxurious penthouse apartment in Milan, Italy.
This exclusive design project was created by designers Elisa and Michael Catoir of Studio Catoir, the penthouse has two floors in Northern Italy in Saronno, and it has an incredible view of the Alps. With a vintage style atmosphere, the interior designers bring the Oscar winning thriller to live.
The owner, a business executive working in the lighting industry, gave designers totally freedom. The only element to keep in mind is the thermal comfort, since summers in the region are severe, just as winters are freezing.
The vintage aesthetics and luxury furniture are designed by Studio Catoir, they were able to achieve a coherent concept with decor pieces. “Textures and prints appear in moderation, but with great effect,” explain the authors.
Full of personality, the apartment has clear inspirations of the film, such as the palette of yellow and blue, and the retro atmosphere. From the modern living room to the luxury bedroom decor, each home division was thought like a movie set where every detail tells a part of the story.
The sophisticated style is translated by mirrors, glasses, and touches of gold, to mention the jewels that are stolen in the film by a man whose identity surprises.
Like Hitchcock’s masterpiece, every detail holds powerfully the attention of the spectator.
