“Show-Room”: 2018 Concept for Maison et Objet

Since September 2016, the three Trend Consultants of the Maison et Objet Observatory have taken turns designing the Inspirations Forum to bring the edition’s concept to life, sharing their own personal vision of the collective work carried out all year round.

In January 2018, it is Agence NellyRodi’s turn to design the Inspirations Space and the Bookshop-Café on the concept SHOWROOM. The concept emerged as the product of the investigative work conducted by NellyRodi’s team of consultants on a variety of societal, industry and marketing topics. The concept will also be further discussed in light of the broader context of lifestyle trends at L’Espace Conférences.

“In our digital times, a whole world of lifestyles is just a click away. Social networks do the spadework, clearing the ground leaving only objects of desire as the well-honed online consumer becomes the artistic director and designer of his/her interior.”  Marie-Jo Malait, Editor In Chief

Cecilie Manz: Designer Of The Year

maison et objet The Ultimate Guide to Maison et Objet 2018 MH Cecilie Manz 01 1000

With every new edition, Maison et Objet Paris elects a Designer of the Year to honor one of the most outstanding names in industrial and interior design worldwide. In January 2018, Maison et Objet has chosen to celebrate the talent of Danish designer Cecilie Manz.

maison et objet The Ultimate Guide to Maison et Objet 2018 The Ultimate Guide to Maison et Objet 2018

As a child, Cecilie Manz remembers she would always slip away to the studio her ceramicist parents kept in their house to sink her hands into the clay… After earning a diploma in object and furniture design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, Cecilie Manz moved to Finland to further her education at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. The very next year, she founded her own studio in the heart of Copenhagen.

Not unlike other Danish designers, the balance she maintains between civilization and nature is vital to her creative process. Much in the same way that her lifestyle and relationships with family members contribute to fuelling her inspiration. Now in her 40s, the elegant Dane readily admits that the ceremony for the Crown Prince Couple’s Culture Award she won in 2014, presented to her by the Prince and Princess of Denmark themselves, was certainly one of the highpoints of her career.

Rising Talents Awards: Viva Italia

Six influential figures from the design industry nominated six Italian rising talents. Maison et Objet is once again turning the spotlight on the Rising Talents, one of the most
anticipated events for talent scouts and trend hunters all over the world. Maison et Objet’s dedication to promoting design in all its diversity is best illustrated by the Rising Talent Awards: every edition young designers from a different country are invited to present their work to the international community of industry professionals.

This time, the Rising Talents will all be from Italy, a country where a new generation is finding its voice in design. A new generation of determined and committed designers are once again asserting their identity, proving their capacity to connect with local artisans and their unparalleled level of excellence, and bringing new momentum to SMEs and historic brands through innovative ideas. A small revolution that is restoring Italy’s status as a major design reference worldwide.

Laperouse is a true Parisian institution. Smile Zola, George Sand, and Victor Hugo were regulars here and the mirrors still bear the scratches of diamond rings (made by mistresses testing the depths of their lovers’ pockets). The interior of this seventeenth-century townhouse is deeply atmospheric and romantic, a warren-like series of rooms strewn about with Persian rugs, all dark wood, and splashes of scarlet.
