After Maison et Objet Paris in January, the second edition – Maison et Objet Americas – in back is May. This event is expected to bring an international class of creatives, visitors and professionals to Miami, with special focus on north and south American presence.
The second edition will transform Miami into the capital of design in America. And as usual, each year Maison et Objet chooses emerging talents in the field of interior design and decor industries, showcasing each of these creatives during the global fair’s annual editions. For May, New York-based Rafael de Cárdenas was named designer of the year 2016.
Founder of Architecture at Large, Cárdenas work spans a wide scope of projects in architecture, residential and commercial interiors, temporary spaces, luxury furniture, objects and home accessories.
“We favor the strategic over the thematic, the cosmopolitan over the typological, and the atmospheric over the static,” de Cárdenas describes. “Ever-focused on the contemporary, we take diligent note of the past while day-dreaming the future.”
His pop influences, imaginative and integrated use of colors and patterns, and the ability to create interior and architectural environments that provoke emotion, is evident in a variety of this signature works, beginning with his debut line of furniture for Johnson Trading Gallery in 2011.
