Metamorphosis Dining Table has come to symbolize the evolutionary history of life, representing the last stage of the cycle through the usage of sculpted fossils on display at the top of the table. It also represents the effort made by our designers to questioning the existence of things, by answering a simple and basic question: “How can we define something as living?”

The first Metamorphosis’ three-piece set, composed by our reinterpreted Diamond sideboard and two mirrors, was inspired by the great novel of the 20th Century, written by the phenomenal thinker Franz Kafka. Created to put aesthetic standards and the meaning of beauty to test, Metamorphosis Series digs deep introspection, unknowingly looking for meaning or something to hang on to.  It also represents the life cycle with different stages and different goals.Maison et Objet Boca do Lobo Reveals New Dining Table at Maison et Objet Boca do Lobo Returns to Maison et Objet to Present Metamorphosis Table 2 e1472478039814

Salone Del Mobile 2016 (iSalone) starts today and it will be a week full of events, exhibitions, and presentations. London studio Barber and Osgerby  has created two new collections  for Italian brand Mutina made of patterned geometric tiles, and a range of ceramic blocks that can be stacked to form ventilated sunscreens. Keep up with the latest developments by the three Barber and Osgerby studios.

Puzzle is the name of the first collection launched in collaboration between Barber and Osgerby and the Italian brand Mutina. This new work of the industrial design studio located in London compromises a range of different tile designs that can be used in a variety of combinations and, that way, imagination is the keyword to understand Puzzle Collection. Also available in single-coloured pieces, the square tiles can be covered by semi-circles, rectangles and triangles in three hues.

In the words of Jay Osgerby and Edward Barber, “the Puzzle collection is a game with infinite outcomes”. According to the London studio founders, who won the 2015 London Design Medal, “the simple geometric shapes become softer and more fluid as the puzzle grows, allowing patterns to ebb and flow.”

Geometric patterns have the capacity of creating abstract images and inspired by this possibility, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby imagined Puzzle collection available in eight colours and based on European islands.  The warm and bright shades are associated with the Mediterranean islands of Milos, Crete and Murano while the neutral colours represent the northern isles of Aland, Faroe, Gotland, Skye and Anglesey.

The second collection designed by Barber and Osgerby design studio is Mistral – a three-dimension tiles collection that will steal the scene at the Salone Del Mobile 55th edition. The shapes are based on Mediterranean roof tiles that are sometimes used as partitions. The duo explains that “the Mistral tile started from a simple detail taken from Italian ancient barns and farm buildings”.

“I wanted to play with the idea of opposite weights too; the lightness of the glass and the massiveness of the wood,” Humberto Campana added. “The immaterialness of the first one and the physicalness of the second one.”
