Metamorphosis Table Maison et Objet What’s New for Maison et Objet Paris in September? Boca do Lobo Returns to Maison et Objet to Present Metamorphosis Table 3

Metamorphosis Dining Table has come to symbolize the evolutionary history of life, representing the last stage of the cycle through the usage of sculpted fossils on display at the top of the table. It also represents the effort made by our designers to questioning the existence of things, by answering a simple and basic question: “How can we define something as living?”

The first Metamorphosis’ three-piece set, composed by our reinterpreted Diamond sideboard and two mirrors, was inspired by the great novel of the 20th Century, written by the phenomenal thinker Franz Kafka. Created to put aesthetic standards and the meaning of beauty to test, Metamorphosis Series digs deep introspection, unknowingly looking for meaning or something to hang on to.  It also represents the life cycle with different stages and different goals.Maison et Objet Boca do Lobo Reveals New Dining Table at Maison et Objet Boca do Lobo Returns to Maison et Objet to Present Metamorphosis Table 2 e1472478039814

“The 2016 Collection is named after my recently published book, ‘Walking on Art’, and is an evolution of the 2015 Illusion collection.   There are nine designs, which feature blocks of colour grading and chunks of silk, integrated in a way that will play on light.  I have combined strong and subtle tonal contrasts to create optical illusions and added drama through splashes of unexpected colour”, said Deirdre Dyson.

One of the techniques that makes Deirdre Dyson’s treatments so special is her sophisticated use of colour grading.  Thanks to her fine art experience, Deirdre is able to perfectly judge the variation of different shades in order to achieve a smooth transition that makes the hues run smoothly into one another.

Her keen eye is brought to life by the skilled craftsmen in Nepal, who hand-knot each carpet, changing the direction of the grading and coloured threads as they work across the loom.

Deirdre’s designs are intended to provide inspiration for clients.  Each carpet is totally bespoke, so clients can create a personalised design, choosing their own shape, colour combination and size.  Anything is possible – including circular profiles, cut-out edging, even a fish-shaped silhouette.

Carpets can be fitted or free-standing.  Different production methods are used to suit both budget and space.  Hand-knotted carpets are made from luxurious wool or a tactile combination of wool and silk.  Alternative methods include tufting for fitted carpeting and pass machine for larger (commercial) spaces – both types of production are carried out in the UK, still creating unique designs.

With a degree in product design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Jonas Edvard lives and works in Copenhagen. His quest for organic design gives life to objects situated between design and ecology, made from living or innovative materials. The biodegradable MYX lamp grows edible mushrooms. The chair and lamps in the Terroir collection are made from a mixture of paper and seaweed recovered on Danish shores. His designs remain close to the natural colors specific to their materials. Some have been included in the permanent collections of the Danish Design Museum.

Katriina Nuutinen – Finland

Born in 1983 in Finland, Katriina Nuutinen is already a big name in the country, with a particular passion for glass and ceramics. Combined with wood, metal, leather and fabric, her favorite materials give rise to ethereal light fixtures, sensual home accessories, and sophisticated furniture pieces. Swedish designer Fredrik Färg and French designer Emma Marga Blanche founded their studio in Stockholm in 2010. Nurtured by the former’s penchant for fashion and the latter’s artistic vein, FÄRG &BLANCHE experiment with innovative combinations of materials and open new horizons for a couture spirit. Halfway between an artisan workshop and a design studio, the duo combines the exclusivity of handmade goods with the prerequisites of industrial manufacturing. Their furniture is covered in leather – the Succession stool – or fabric – the F.A.B. line – and combines wood and tailoring as in the Wood Tailoring collection. The pair’s experimental DNA has won over Swedish brands such as Gärsnäs, Zero and Design House Stockholm. Their RE-cover chairs have been added to the collections of the National Museum in Stockholm.

Troels Flensted – Denmark

After studying design in Denmark, the young Scandinavian talent continued his training at Central Saint Martins in London, from which he graduated in 2014. He returned to his homeland to found his studio. He explores the reactions of materials and colors produced during the manufacturing process. In this melting pot of inspiration and creation, he freezes singular effects and preserves their accidents. The materials obtained are shown on large decorative surfaces. Such as the Poured collection of side tables, made from a mixture of acrylic powder, water based resin and pigments for a result similar to travertine.

Somewhere between art and design, Jørgen Platou Willumsen and Stian Korntved Ruud’s abstract objects show like works of art. Among their sources of inspiration: nature and craftsmanship. The Norwegian duo collects wood in the heart of the forests to dry it and work with it with great attentiveness. They take the same approach with abandoned materials, which they recover to give them new life, such as copper, exploring its oxidation. From this close relationship with materials emerge minimalist creations somewhere between mobiles and sculptures. They have been exhibited in Milan, London, Berlin, Vienna, New York and Paris.
