Combined with several materials, they give life to a skillful interplay of harmonious shades. The Catifa collection was launched in 2016 and it’s inspired in a family unceasingly growing. Originally designed in 2004, the new proposal for the current year is available in a soft and complex palette: petrol, smoky gray, ivory, rosé and yellow. It’s the pursuit of the essential. It’s a reinterpretation of monochrome design.

Puzzle is the name of the first collection launched in collaboration between Barber and Osgerby and the Italian brand Mutina. This new work of the industrial design studio located in London compromises a range of different tile designs that can be used in a variety of combinations and, that way, imagination is the keyword to understand Puzzle Collection. Also available in single-coloured pieces, the square tiles can be covered by semi-circles, rectangles and triangles in three hues.

In the words of Jay Osgerby and Edward Barber, “the Puzzle collection is a game with infinite outcomes”. According to the London studio founders, who won the 2015 London Design Medal, “the simple geometric shapes become softer and more fluid as the puzzle grows, allowing patterns to ebb and flow.”

Geometric patterns have the capacity of creating abstract images and inspired by this possibility, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby imagined Puzzle collection available in eight colours and based on European islands.  The warm and bright shades are associated with the Mediterranean islands of Milos, Crete and Murano while the neutral colours represent the northern isles of Aland, Faroe, Gotland, Skye and Anglesey.

The second collection designed by Barber and Osgerby design studio is Mistral – a three-dimension tiles collection that will steal the scene at the Salone Del Mobile 55th edition. The shapes are based on Mediterranean roof tiles that are sometimes used as partitions. The duo explains that “the Mistral tile started from a simple detail taken from Italian ancient barns and farm buildings”.

CTRLZAK presents a contemporary take on the traditional hourglass

Among the first instruments that man perceived to measure time, the milan-based collective’s apparent hourglass utilizes the properties of traditional materials in reviewing this almost obsolete object. A mouth-blown borosilicate glass vessel provides transparency, while refined iron fillings trickle from one compartment to another. The contemporary design reveals the passage of time not only through movement, but through the creation of a small crystalline structure — revealing that time is not only obvious to the observer as a continuous motion, but through materials which can help visualize and make its passing something physical. Secondome is also showcasing pieces produced with padiglione italia, and the final pieces of the ‘from-to’ collection organized by martino gamper for valore artigiano.

Positioned within the historic palazzo serbelloni, ‘movements’ is divided into two parts, each of which explores the unexpected application of the caesarstone material, and its distinctive textures, in process-based design.

‘For me the starting point was the exploration of the material, as we tend to start most projects. we therefore focused on spending time in the workshop, except, this was not an ordinary workshop, but a fully equipped solid surface transformation facility. caesarstone is an extremely versatile material that is easy to predict and work with, and it offers a variety of colors and finishes. I therefore experimented with a series of techniques and applications ranging from the mundane to the more experimental.’ – Philippe Malouin

Malouin’s installation is the third in a series of collaborations that caesarstone is engaging in with international designs, asking them to explore the premium stone material in new ways. his work follows nendo’s stone garden which looks at how caesartone can be applied to furniture, and raw edges’ ‘islands’ which expresses the use of caesarstone as a surface and its potential use within the domestic domain.

‘For our third large-scale presentation in milan, we were interested in delving into philippe malouin’s unique approach to product design, so that the qualities unique to caesarstone material – such as strength and flexibility, are explored in a thoroughly new way.’ – eli feiglin, VP of marketing at caesarstone
