Bank on This
Of all the theft-proof bank boxes that were made during the California Gold rush in the early 19th century, none, one can curmise, would have been a match for Boca do Lobo’s Mollionaire Safe. Crafted from the finest mahogany, the safe can be plated in Gold, as well as lined with polished brass or 16-18 or 24-carat Gold leaf.
The most conpicuous features are de turned brass handles and silver-plated wheels on the door.
“We were inspired by the antiue mechanisms tha caracterised old safes,” says the Portuguese design studio’s creative director Marco Costa. Following the theme, each safe also uses an old-fashioned rotary combination lock system. The five velvet-lined drawars inside are locked with an antique brass key. Only 20 pieces of this imposing beauty are available at 27.300€ ($44.000) each. The standard dimension for the safe are 152 cm (height) by 81cm (width) and 63cm (depth), but the size and finishing can be customised for an additional fee. Each piece takes seven artisans 10 weeks to craft.
