I know you’re not a decorator, but you design projects like a professional? Where did this interest in the design world come from?

I have always loved design. Since I was a student I always tried to do my own design and the homes I either rented or bought. I gained experience I guess through trial and error. If I were to relive my life I think I would have become a designer and not a banker.

I also had a lots of help in terms of the interior architecture from a very talented designer by the name of Louis Wehbe who I have worked with over the years on a number of projects. He is lebanese and is based in Dubai but gave me allot of help in terms of the layout and the actual architecture of the place. He traveled to Spain a number of times and did very detailed drawings. It was rather funny because he does not speak Spanish and the guys in Asturias do not speak English so it was incredibly challenging but we pulled it off.

Are you proud of this project? I know that finished in a record time of 7 months.

I am very proud of this project because of the record time as well as being able to pull together so many design elements. It is a protected zone so we could not do much outside and it was more work done inside the house. I am totally in love with the results.

What were the biggest difficulties you encountered?

Difficulties were in finding responsible construction people. I was lucky with some and very unlucky with others. Overall we fixed the issues however it continues to be a problem in terms of little things that we still have to fix to today even though the house was finished supposedly last August

I know you’re currently living in Dubai. Why chose this house in Asturias? What caught your attention more?

We have spent the last four years in Asturias during the summer renting a beautiful house. I was looking from the first month I arrived to buy because I fell in love with the landscape and the people. I looked at tens and tens of houses before I found this place. What I area. It needed was a big space and a view. It was quite difficult to find a house that had a big indoor built-up was very lucky that we found the perfect combination in this chalet. I absolutely adore Asturias  I think it is the most magnificent place on earth. I love the fact that it is so undiscovered and is not spoiled yet and I hope it doesn’t get spoiled.

What was the inspiration behind the search for  themes, fabric and color choices, window treatments, furniture, etc?

I am a big mix of different cultures and I really wanted to make sure that the house had this feeling of international cultures and mixed themes. At the base of it I always work with a very neutral color palette and then add striking pieces to pull it together. I believe in a neutral palette and then to that add interesting pieces too. I love art and so therefore you will see that there are a lot of interesting and international art pieces…. As well as interesting furniture and fittings that act as a counterpart to the neutral base.

Is this your dream project?

I have so many dream projects. It is certainly one of them hopefully with the years I will do more. The issue here is I could not built from scratch in this area I had to convert an existing home because you cannot build new buildings in a protected zone. converting means you have certain limitations so for example if I were to build this from scratch I would’ve had much higher ceilings. But I am in love with that result.

I know you used some of the most unique pieces in this project, like Boca do Lobo’s. Why Boca do Lobo?

Yes as I said I think that using a neutral palette and adding interesting pieces is what pulls a place together. I have always done that. Boca Do Lobo is an amazing firm that has the most unique pieces. They are really striking. The issue is you cannot overload a home with too many pieces that are blingy….So it is a balance between using them in the right places sparingly. I always loved Boca do Lobo  and in fact am helping design another place in Dubai now that will be using the pieces extensively as well. They are truly unique and special.

I also was incredibly lucky to find a gentleman called Alejandro Zarabozo in Asturias who is a master carpenter with an amazing company. He tailor-made pieces for me all over the house incorporating some off the special materials I sourced from all over the world specially India for example a lot of Tigereye and mother of pearl materials that he worked with me to design pieces utilizing across the house. I was very lucky to find him….he is a master

How would you describe the partnership with Boca do Lobo?

They are incredibly professional. They immediately responded to all my queries and were able to change the dimensions of the pieces as per my request. They did not stick to their predetermined sizes and were able to work with me extensively. I have been very lucky because there are a number of companies that have helped me out in similar fashion…. In Spain, Portugal , Italy, Lebanon and india

You travelled so much, what was the most impressive design experience?

It is so difficult to explain where the most impressive design experiences have been. I have picked up pieces from everywhere from little ice buckets in Hong Kong to beautiful tribal masks in Africa. I think that is the essence of impressive design to be able to pull together a global experience into one house- not a house but a home that reflects the personality and experiences of the owners.
