Hotel Room Mate Giulia by Patricia Urquiola Is a Marvel of Design
Designed in 2016 by Patricia Urquiola, this Hotel Room Mate Giulia blends the spirit of Milan. Established in the heart of Milan, with its 85 rooms, the Hotel is a few steps from Piazza Del Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. Urquiola created a colorful interior, that displays the character of the capital of fashion and when it comes to the application of elements and details, it has a great association with the city.
“Room Mate Giulia combines the essence of Milan. It’s new, fresh, fun and welcoming. The hotel reflects the city through its colors, materials, images, irony, the mix of different languages and also its rigor.” said Patricia Urquiola.
The interiors represent an eclectic mix of ancient and modern with items taken from the capital that only someone living in Milan or Patricia Urquiola, an ‘honorary Milanesi’ would notice. The precise selection of materials and elements can be detected on arrival with the floor of the hotel lobby crafted in pink marble, the same applied in the Duomo and the terracotta bricks seen on the arched feature wall that produces a three-dimensional impression.
The repeated geometric patterns reveal the severity of the city and also refer to the visual arts, an essential part of the aesthetic story of the city.
“The idea of the contemporary hotel is not just thinking it is a design hotel, it’s how you interpret it, the Piazza Del Duomo is nearby, the local souvenir shops, traditional cafes; everything in the exterior is connected to the materials in the interior.” – Urquiola
