Bringing inspiration from cinematic universes, designer Armann Ortega helps fashion a fittingly cinematic home design.
When the power couple that is behind this incredible interior design project moved from Washington, D.C., to New York City in 2014, Peter Ostrega and Samantha Angelo had a vision for their future, and it was peculiarly related to the narrow views of their small apartment on the Lower East Side.

Five years later, the couple was finally able to purchase their dream luxury abode and turn it into the home design of their dreams. Located in the imposing Herzog & de Meuron–designed building, space was everything they looked for a home, and while they both have a great sense of style, they decided it was best to hire someone to make all their wishes and visions for that house, come true.
In charge of the entire home design was the new interior designer Armann Ortega, with a background in the film industry who immediately clicked with the couple. The luxury apartment became everything that Peter and Samantha have envisioned and more.
“They looked like they walked out of a movie set,” says Ortega of meeting them for the first time. “She was wearing a bubble-gum pink pantsuit, chunky Maison Margiela shoes, and huge glasses, and I thought, There’s a lot to work with here. They were my inspiration for the whole project.”
But not only their sense of style was a source of design inspiration for the young interior designer. Ostrega and Angelo are fans of the Brian De Palma movie Scarface, so the designer let his imagination wander over to Miami, circa 1980.
Purple and blue reign in this apartment, not to mention that the 10-foot-tall windows are some of the greatest elements of this entire design project. It adds such great sunlight during the day with the most imposing view and gives an urban vibe due to its night lights and the result is utterly cinematic.
