Swedish designer Markus Johansson is the author of a out of the Box chair, made from fibreglass and silicone. In order to create an “unconventional” form using only new methods, the artist built a full-size 3D-printed model to create the mould for this chair so that it could resemble a squeezed tube shape.
The experiments goes from the production technique through the aesthetic of the chair. Johansson wanted to reinvent the traditional shape of the chair to create a “soft toy-like appearance”.
The most noticeable feature of the chair is the series of tubes that creates the outline and legs of the chair, while more zigzag around the frame to form the seat and back.
“[It is] a very functional chair: stackable, comfortable, long-lasting, resistant to exterior weather conditions and easy to clean, all of which makes it suitable for numerous different scenes for both interior and exterior environments,” said the designer.
