The Broadview Hotel, Toronto

This Romanesque building at Queen and Broadview, in Toronto, was constructed in 1891 and served as the office for Dingman’s soap factory. Years later, this historic building was converted into a hotel.

DesignAgency designed all the communal areas, restaurants and cafes spaces, roof terrace and rooms. This 58 room boutique hotel hosts The Broadview café and bar, Civic restaurant, Lincoln Hall and Lincoln Terrace with a private dining room also in the building’s historic tower.

This iconic landmark now hosts bespoke furniture and lighting pieces and well as being sympathetically updated, restoring the building to its former character. The mood of the spaces feels contemporary, thoughtful, laid-back and comforting.

Costa Elena Landscape Hotel, Costa Rica

DesignAgency worked on this project with a focus on creating a five-star luxury all-inclusive resort that provides a wealth of cultural and artful experiences within the existing site conditions and vegetation in an environmentally sensitive way.

About an hour from Liberia Airport, and just south of Nicaragua, the 5.3-hectare property at Costa Elena cascades from the hillside forest to the beach. A series of light, modern pavilions, crafted from minimalist but resilient, natural indigenous materials, wind down the naturally sloping topography, flowing easily from interior to exterior.

Generator Hotel, Venice

Generator wanted to liven up Venice‘s boring hotel and nightlife scene by expanding Generator Venice. Working with the local project architect Progetto CMR under the watchful eye of the Venice Fine Arts Committee, DesignAgency renovated an 1855 palazzo to strict city codes, exposing the romance and beauty of the historic building.

Stone columns, wooden beams, roof trusses and magnificent staircases were restored and the building services were brought up to date, including the installation of a new lift, new rooms and new bathrooms.

The main floor features a spacious lounge with a breakfast area, bar and coquettish nooks and crannies that invite guests to linger. Guests meet, dine and linger in spaces that reflect the magic and romance of Venice itself. Antique pieces like an apothecary cabinet, four-poster bed, and stone fireplace complement a tufted leather bar and custom elements by local craftsmen.
