As we\u2019re going through some of Marco\u2019s sketches over lunch, I ask him \u201cWhat do you do with your prototype pieces? People love prototypes, and seeing the evolution that design pieces undergo before they become ready for release.\u201d Marco pauses, it\u2019s clear that he\u2019s started thinking hard about something. He then continues, and explains that prototypes serve different purposes, either as reference pieces at the workshop, or for photo shoots, and so on.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cYou know, we have often thought about having a piece auctioned. Can you imagine it? That is where we want to go, towards a world were design pieces in their raw form can be fully appreciated.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A week later, we sit down for lunch. I\u2019m excited to show him some of the research I did on auction houses in London. At this point, I understand that Marco had also done his homework \u2013 \u201cAnd I\u2019ve got just the piece it too! What do you think of the Symphony Sideboard? It reflects the designer<span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u2019s passion for music and metalwork, and the extensive research carried out during its development process. This limited piece was purchased in 2012 by Janet Morais, a well established North American\u00a0Interior Designer, were it remained in her collection until earlier this year.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Currently, there are only eight of twenty Symphony Sideboard<span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u2019s in\u00a0existence, all of which are spread out in\u00a0different continents. It goes without saying that one of the eight models was\u00a0commissioned for the Fifty Shades of Grey blockbuster, where it was featured in Christian Grey\u2019s apartment.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22235\" src=\"http:\/\/bocadolobo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/symphony-sideboard-boca-do-lobo-041.jpg\" alt=\"symphony-sideboard-boca-do-lobo-04\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I send Celia Harvey, Christie\u2019s Furniture and Clocks Specialist, an email with our idea and a brief proposition, having attempted the same with a few other contacts I had gathered. Shortly after I received an email back from Celia. She liked the Symphony, and its story. The auction was on!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-22449 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/bocadolobo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/11906243_410975552438147_2044396850_n.jpg\" alt=\"Symphony Sideboard at Christie's - The logbook\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bocadolobo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/11906243_410975552438147_2044396850_n.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.bocadolobo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/11906243_410975552438147_2044396850_n-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\"><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Fast forward a few weeks to August, and the piece arrives at 85 Old Brompton, Christie\u2019s London Showroom. As the first Symphony to be\u00a0publicly exhibited in London, it attracted several Boca do Lobo followers.\u00a0The auction, \u00a0held tomorrow \u2013 the 10th of September \u2013 under the <i>Out of the\u00a0Ordinary<\/i> category, will\u00a0be attended by Boca do Lobo\u2019s designers, Marco and Jo\u00e3o, who are in London for the upcoming Design Festival.
