The Murray<\/span><\/strong><\/em> is a luxury hotel<\/a><\/strong> located in Hong Kong<\/a><\/strong> and it\u2019s fully open to the public. Located on the southern edge of Central<\/strong> with panoramic views<\/a><\/strong> of The Peak<\/strong> and the gardens to the south<\/strong>, this major transformation of a listed government office building reinvents this unique urban quarter<\/strong> \u2013 stitching together the urban fabric by linking the large green spaces<\/a><\/strong> flanking the site to the east and west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur design for The Murray<\/strong><\/em> creates a dialogue between the old and the new \u2013 giving the building a new lease of life and a renewed purpose, with a unique sense of character that is embedded within the fabric of the building.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\nFoster + Partners<\/strong><\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The 25-storey Murray Building<\/strong> was originally designed at a time when the city <\/strong>was planned around the car and consequently stands on an island site surrounded by roads, making it impermeable for pedestrians. One of the central aims of the regeneration project was to reconnect the <\/strong>building<\/strong> <\/a>with the city at ground level, creating a new street frontage on Garden Road<\/strong>, transparent and welcoming ground floor spaces, and enhancing and extending the landscaped grounds<\/a><\/strong> to incorporate a public tai chi area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Revealing a real sense of arrival<\/strong>, the design<\/strong> <\/a>peels back the original car park deck<\/strong> to create a private forecourt<\/strong> with the old and valuable tree at its centre forming the hotel drop-off<\/strong> and entrance<\/strong>. From here the visitors walk through the majestic arches<\/strong>, that now rise up three stories from the ground level, into the hotel lobby<\/strong>. The upper levels contain the guest rooms<\/strong> where the rooms have been designed<\/strong> to complement the strong geometry of the facade and frame stunning views<\/strong> of the Hong Kong<\/a> skyline<\/strong> and lush gardens<\/strong> that surround the site. The top of the building<\/a><\/strong> has been given over to the public with a restaurant <\/strong>and bar <\/strong>that open onto a roof terrace<\/a><\/strong> with unparalleled panoramic views<\/strong> of Hong Kong<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Murray<\/strong><\/em> recalls the tradition of the grand hotels<\/strong> with its distinctive presence. It seeks to redefine the idea of luxury<\/strong>, which is about a generosity of space, a sense of calm, and an inherent understanding of how the hotel responds to the needs of the guest<\/strong>. The experience is seamless \u2013 from how the guests arrive at the destination, and then travel through the building to the interiors<\/strong> that showcase the inherent beauty of the materials<\/strong>, all coming together within a holistic vision<\/strong> for The Murray<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\nFox<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What was an office building<\/a><\/strong> from the 1970s, has been completely transformed into a unique luxury hotel<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 elegant hotel lobbies<\/strong> and restaurants<\/strong> <\/a>occupy the erstwhile car park, plant room spaces have been replaced with banquet halls, luxurious pools<\/a><\/strong>, and spas<\/strong>, and the office spaces on the floors above have been reinvented as exclusive hotel<\/strong> rooms<\/strong><\/a>. While reimagining all these spaces<\/strong>, the design team<\/strong> took care to retain the distinctive spirit<\/strong> of the building that makes The Murray<\/strong><\/em> a unique destination<\/a><\/strong> for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
