Haute Couture Week<\/strong> is considered an important opportunity for brands to showcase their expertise and savoir-faire<\/strong><\/a>. Using the highest form of craftsmanship<\/strong> and important stones, the ateliers produce dynamic, one-of-a-kind designs<\/strong>. Often without time limitations or budget constraints, the\u00a0high-jewellery collections<\/strong><\/em> can take years to create, the pieces are as close to pure art as it gets. And while nothing can replace the effect of seeing a rare gemstone catch the light in person or the tactile sensation of a necklace\u2019s articulations, the digital showings<\/strong><\/a> still managed to capture the magic, fantasy, and storytelling that is Haute Joaillerie<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Boucheron<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The oldest jewellery house<\/strong> in Paris\u2019s Place Vend\u00f4me<\/strong> has created the most cutting-edge, forward-thinking high-jewellery collection<\/em><\/strong> of them all. Titled Contemplation<\/strong> and conceived by the Maison’s creative director, Claire Choisne<\/strong>, the array was designed to capture the ephemeral and convey the poetry of present moments. To do so, Choisne sought high-tech materials from the worlds of engineering and technology, then combined them with traditional jewellery-making techniques<\/strong>. The pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance<\/em> is the Goutte de Ciel necklace<\/strong>, which she describes as \u201ca piece of sky you can wear around your neck.<\/em>\u201d To achieve the desired effect she worked with an opalescent aerogel developed by NASA (normally used to gather stardust for analysis) encased it in rock crystal and suspended from a diamond and crystal collar.<\/p>\n

Another masterpiece<\/strong> is the Nuage en Apesanteur<\/strong>, made with white gold, 10,000 titanium beads, 4,018 diamonds, and hundreds of glass beads<\/strong> simulating droplets of water, designed to evoke a cloud floating around the wearer\u2019s throat. The Maison consulted a programmer to bring this unique creation<\/strong> to life, working for around two years to develop the materials.<\/p>\n

Chaumet<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

For the past 240 years, the storied Place Vend\u00f4me Maison Chaumet<\/strong> has drawn on architecture as a central source of inspiration, and its latest high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em>, Perspectives de Chaumet<\/strong>, takes it to new heights with 81 modernist-infused pieces<\/strong>. Best known for aristocratic tiaras (the brand has made over 2,000 since 1780), Chaumet<\/strong> boldly reimagines the traditional head jewel for the 21st century. The stunning Lacis tiara<\/strong>, for example, makes use of its signature fil couteau<\/em>, or knife-edge setting, and latticework to create a dazzling optical illusion of floating diamonds. Another highlight is the Brutalist-looking Skyline ring<\/strong>, boasting a 7.34-carat, D-Flawless, type IIa Asscher-cut diamond in the centre. Because of the recent closures in Paris, the workshop has completed just 38 styles for the high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em> while the remainder will be revealed in September.<\/p>\n

The latest high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em> from Piaget taps into our collective desire to escape to a tropical oasis. Dubbed Wings of Light<\/strong>, the high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em>\u2014inspired by the magic of nature\u2014was conceived by Christophe Bourrie, who joined the brand last summer to direct its high-jewellery offering. Standouts include a suite of delicate feathered creations in jewel-like tones, such as a striking asymmetrical necklace inspired by the shape of an exotic bird\u2019s wing. Known for partnering with independent makers, Piaget<\/strong> tapped Nelly Saunier, a specialist in the 16th-century craft of plumasserie<\/em>, who matched blue, turquoise, red, and yellow feathers with rare multicoloured stones. (The feathers can also be removed and worn as earpieces.)<\/p>\n

The Secret Cenote<\/strong> cuff-style watch\u2014a nod to Piaget\u2019s horological heritage\u2014features a dial of Australian black opal with a striking tessellation of diamonds, opals, and blue sapphires from Sri Lanka and Madagascar, evoking a shimmering pool. Rose Saneuil, a master of wood marquetry<\/strong><\/a>, worked on the final sunset-inspired chapter.<\/p>\n

Pomellato<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

For Pomellato<\/strong>\u2019s debut in the world of high jewellery<\/strong>, the Italian jewellers present La Gioia<\/strong>, a whimsical collection of 165 pieces defined by bursts of rainbows, surprising volumes, and masterful gem-setting techniques<\/strong><\/a>. The quintessential Pomellato chain got an artful twist with the addition of precious stones in the most tantalizing hues. The showstopper is surely the Gourmette Cam\u00e9l\u00e9on<\/strong> choker necklace. To create the 27 gradient shades, a staggering 1,798 gems, including sapphires, emeralds, aquamarines, topaz, and diamond, were pav\u00e9-set across the 29 rose-gold links. The brand also gave its signature Sabbia range the high-jewellery treatment with the Sabbia Flamingo<\/strong> set of earrings and multi pendant necklace. Grainlike dots of pale pink sapphires and pink-red rubies in a sertissage<\/em> setting create a dazzling ombr\u00e9 effect.<\/p>\n

Cartier<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

A psychedelic, abstract take on the traditional theme of flora and fauna, Cartier<\/strong>\u2019s new [Sur]naturel collection<\/strong> is described as \u201cnature that is more real than nature itself.<\/em>\u201d With an emphasis on the power of stones, some of the unusual pairings include rare diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires teamed with opal and kunzite, coral, aquamarine, and quartz. The necklaces are the standouts of the collection: The Hemis<\/strong>, for example, is a novel interpretation of the panther, the beautiful creature most closely associated with the house of Cartier<\/strong>. Here, organically shaped black opals cluster like pebbles around a showstopping 71.08-carat cushion-shaped kunzite centrepiece.<\/p>\n

The iconic serpent also gets the supernatural treatment in the Opheis necklace<\/strong>, where the form becomes an asymmetrical design centring on a giant cabochon emerald while overlapping diamonds evoke the texture of snakeskin.<\/p>\n

Buccellati<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

Buccellati<\/strong>, which just celebrated its 100th year, paid homage to its heritage in a new 30-piece high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em> based on house signatures like the lacy Honeycomb line, which is now offered for the first time in rose gold. Still using time-honoured techniques dating back to the Renaissance, the brand\u2019s artistic director, Andrea Buccellati, hopes the one-of-a-kind pieces<\/strong> will enrich the collections launched by his father, Gianmaria Buccellati, during the 20th century. One eye-catching piece is a white-gold bangle set with 1,049 brilliant-cut diamonds and 12 large oval-cut stones, totalling more than 15 carats. A work of art, it took the master artisans<\/strong> more than a year to make.<\/p>\n

Van Cleef & Arpels<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

The French jewellery house<\/strong> is postponing its new high-jewellery collection<\/strong><\/em> until July 2021, when things have returned to normal. Instead, it used the opportunity to showcase a selection of three new pieces inspired by heritage jewels owned by the brand\u2019s leading clients. Standouts include the Rubis en Sc\u00e8ne bracelet<\/strong>, which features 72 rubies, and the Art Deco-inspired Merveille d\u2019Emeraudes necklace<\/strong> with five emeralds weighing a total of 70.4 carats. The house is also in the midst of preparing for an exhibition, \u201cPierres Precieuses<\/em>,\u201d in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History<\/strong> in Paris. With a focus on the intersection of science, mineralogy, and jewels, the presentation will feature some 300 creations from the Van Cleef archives<\/strong>, institutions, and private collectors, and will open to the public on September 16<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Celebrated Taiwanese jeweller Cindy Chao<\/strong> has been causing a stir in the jewellery world in recent years for her daring sculptural creations inspired by nature. Presented via a Zoom roundtable, Chao revealed some of her latest Black Label Masterpieces<\/strong>, the brand\u2019s most illustrious and exclusive pieces<\/strong>. The 2020 Black Label Masterpiece V Cameron Falls<\/strong> earrings are inspired by Canada\u2019s Cameron Falls national park, a unique landscape known for its beautiful pink rock formations. The sculptural earrings feature natural conch pearls, totalling 10.24 carats, accentuated by cascades of pink sapphires and purple garnets set on anodized titanium. White diamonds and fancy-coloured rose-cut diamonds add to the illusion of falling water. Demonstrating Chao\u2019s cutting-edge titanium craftsmanship<\/strong>, her Green Plumule brooch<\/strong> features a whopping 487 pieces of fancy-cut emeralds, totalling 172.58 carats, with the largest being 30.06 carats.<\/p>\n
