Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/strong> is the result of over 30 years of experience and a perfect combination between Leo Marmol<\/strong> and Ron Radziner<\/strong>, both architects and both inspired by California<\/strong> modernist design<\/strong>. All of their projects in architecture<\/strong>, construction, landscape, or interior design<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong>have something in common: the proximity with nature.<\/strong><\/span> Whether they are creating under high standards of sustainable design<\/strong> or designing outdoor<\/strong> spaces, the main focus is to connect daily life with the landscape<\/a><\/strong>, almost as if they were only one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DESERT HOUSE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the immense California<\/a><\/strong> desert, there\u2019s an invigorating oasis<\/strong><\/a>!<\/span> Brilliantly designed by Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong>, this retreat belongs to Leo Marmol<\/strong> and his wife Alisa Becket. Located on a five-acre site in Desert Hot Springs, California<\/a><\/strong>, this house was oriented to provide the best view of San Jacinto Peak and the surrounding mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Desert House <\/strong>floats six feet above the desert landscape<\/a><\/strong>, attached to a recessed platform. The main living area unfolds to the west with views of the mountains San Jacinto and San Gorgonio. Open frames provide sheltered living spaces where interior<\/strong> and exterior<\/strong> merge<\/span>, while connecting the house to the north wing, which houses a guest house and studio spaces. By forming an \u201cL\u201d, the house creates a sheltered environment that includes a pool<\/strong><\/a> and fire pit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUMMITRIDGE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to Ron Radziner<\/strong>, the owner \u2013 an independent art collector, wanted a modern house<\/a><\/strong> where every bedroom and living area had a view of the garden rooftops and the city of Los Angeles<\/strong> beyond. They also drew attention to indoor-outdoor living<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, with special attention on outdoor dining and entertaining with natural color and material palette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe material and color combinations on the fa\u00e7ade, together with the terraced volumes and planted roofs, allow the structure to recede into the hillside.\u201d<\/p>\nRon Radziner<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Situated on a steep 2.8-acre slope, this residence<\/strong> is defined by a series of cantilevered, overlapping volumes that cascade downward and eventually nestle into the earth. Each level features a green roof and a private terrace with a unique view of the landscape<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SELA RESIDENCE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong> designed this residence for a young family, in Venice<\/strong>, California<\/a><\/strong>. The privacy from the street was warranted by using a series of screens and walls at the same time as allow openness within the lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large front garden<\/strong> separates the house from the street<\/span> with dense planting and a play area for young children. A gray rendered fa\u00e7ade captures the shadows of the trees and contrasts with the bright rusty red of the fence and the multi-colored timber cladding of the southwest wall. The collage of textures and colors continues inside<\/strong>, creating rhythm and tension throughout the house.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Architectural and construction services were provided by Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong> for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DESIGN-BUILD<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Something unique about Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong> is that they are both architects<\/strong> and contractors<\/strong> and they provide a single source of accountability from project conception through building occupancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their careers as architects, they have experienced some mistakes when they turn a project over to a contractor who does not build the project as drawn. Information can be lost during this process. This Design-Build<\/em><\/strong> concept allows Marmol Radziner<\/em><\/strong> to pursue standards of excellence that are difficult to achieve in the typical architect\/contractor relationship<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
