Boca do Lobo<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and CovetED Magazine<\/a><\/em><\/strong> had the chance to speak with the interior designer<\/em><\/strong>, who he revealed some exclusive details <\/strong>about the future of the Esrawe studio<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based in the iconic Mexico city,<\/em><\/strong> the Esrawe studio <\/em><\/strong>has positively impacted <\/strong>the modern design industry <\/strong>without forgetting the essence of Mexican design and culture<\/strong>. Whether it is an architectural project <\/strong>or a bespoke piece<\/strong>, each idea is rooted in the sustainability concept <\/strong>and inspired by the country\u2019s rich craftsmanship culture<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in 1968 <\/em><\/strong>in Mexico City<\/em><\/strong>, the beginning of H\u00e9ctor\u2019s career wasn\u2019t as clear as you might think. The Mexican interior designer <\/em><\/strong>revealed to us that he only discovered his passion during college when a professional counsellor showed him a book of industrial design that described H\u00e9ctor\u2019s many passions in the first 20 lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI never had a clear understanding when I was young of what I wanted to do exactly in my life. I was attracted by technical professions, like robotics for example, but I never ever even knew about industrial design. When she showed me the book I saw all of my interests were integrated into that one sentence, and I didn\u2019t have to read further, I only said: I want to do this\u201d<\/em>. <\/p>\nH\u00e9ctor Esrawe<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He later graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA)<\/em><\/strong> in 1992 <\/strong>as an Industrial Designer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1997 to 2001 he was a Design Professor at UIA<\/strong><\/em>, after that he became Design Director <\/strong>at CENTRO Study House<\/em><\/strong>, where he created the Industrial Design Degree<\/em><\/strong>. However, it was in 2003, that H\u00e9ctor decided to launch his multidisciplinary design practice,<\/strong> Esrawe Studio<\/em><\/strong>, which is considered to be one of the top references of design in the world.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy vision is mostly related to creativity, I didn\u2019t want to put a line between all of the fields that I\u2019m attracted to. I managed my way to work with different professionals and be able to create a philosophy of collaboration that allowed me to explore all of these fields that I was attracted to as a designer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From furniture<\/strong>, object<\/strong>, and interiors<\/strong>, to architecture<\/strong>, public space installation, and museography<\/strong>, this is a multidisciplinary studio <\/strong>that loves to create anything related to the design<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The studio is composed of a team of highly experienced industrial designers<\/strong>, architects<\/strong>, production technicians<\/strong>, and graphic designers<\/strong> who make sure<\/strong> that each one of the projects in hand is optimally crafted from conceptualization to the finishing details<\/strong>. The studio\u2019s creative essence is present throughout the entire process; a process perfected every day to offer new innovative concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has changed through the years was the beginning of the designer\u2019s creative process for every project. What started out as a chapter her the team only focused on the client\u2019s requests has shifted to a completely different methodology where context and narrative take the lead part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI don\u2019t jump immediately in creating a solution, first I do research and diagnostic processes to create the narrative of the project before I take a pencil. So it has evolved in a different direction, we work in small projects (such as the candle of shinu) or we work in big designs such as the Arca showroom in Guadalajara, but both of them have the same initial approach in the methodology applied in different scales and timelines\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\nH\u00e9ctor Esrawe<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Passion<\/strong>, boldness<\/strong>, and narrative <\/strong>are the three concepts that defined a project<\/strong> created by H\u00e9ctor. He explained to us that his best work not only features a deep process of understanding the concept but also introduces a new meaning of design into the world inspired by his extremely rich<\/strong> and profound understanding of the Mexican culture, like his first big architectural piece with 700sqm called Arca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of creating a classic showroom, the design team from Esrawe studio<\/em><\/strong> built a cultural space that not only has the standard trade business <\/strong>but is also more connected to the community<\/strong>, since it can also be used for exhibitions, lectures, and conferences. The question for this project was: \u201cwhat if we open our doors to the architects and creatives of the area and invite them to a space that can be used for exhibitions? We are still selling materials, but you also have a positive impact on that area\u201d. Arca is a place linked to the culture that has a different approach that breaks all of the paradigms of what that trade space should be.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no doubt that the modern design concept has been changing throughout the past few years<\/strong>, especially with the pandemic that we just passed, but not all things were bad. H\u00e9ctor explained that \u201cwe became unconscious of basic things that now have our full attention, so I think it is a process of coming back to the basics that are the use of natural air, natural light, and understanding the impact that we have on nature.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He believes that as a society we learned to appreciate the smaller thing <\/strong>that was undervalued before, however, this care for natural things was something that H\u00e9ctor always kept present in his creations since the beginning of his career. \u201cWe have worked for many, many years (before the pandemic), in a sustainable, contextual process with sources local natural sources\u201d<\/em>, explained H\u00e9ctor. The Mexican interior designer<\/em><\/strong> is currently working <\/strong>on a small hotel near Tulum <\/strong>that only features three rooms<\/strong>, turning ir into one of the most exciting projects that he is working on at this moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The studio breaths of dedication,<\/strong> passion<\/strong>, and persistence<\/strong>, focusing on fine details and quality<\/strong>, always pushing boundaries<\/strong>, and taking on new challenges<\/strong>. All in all the success of the studio for H\u00e9ctor relied on \u201cblurring the line between the disciplines that allowed me to work with artists and design fields that can be translated into art, but I can\u2019t describe myself as being an artist, I\u2019m a designer\u201d<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, there aren\u2019t any magic formulas to success in the design world, he believes that it all starts with being\u00a0 \u201cconscious, rigorous, and understand the impact that our profession can have in transforming a negative aspect into a positive thing for the world\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
