Combining Heritage and Modernity: The Al Bait Sharjah Hotel by GAJ

Known as GAJ, Godwin Austen Johnson is an award-winning design studio with particular expertise in hospitality, education, leisure, residential and commercial design, as well as master planning and provides expertise in the associated disciplines of modern architecture and contemporary interior design. With nearly 40 years of regional experience and influence on modern Middle Eastern architecture, GAJ’s body of work includes some of Dubai’s most remarkable and high-quality architectural buildings: one of them is the Al Bait Sharjah Hotel.

As one of the largest and longest-established British architectural and design firms in the United Arabian Emirates, GAP has created some of Dubai’s most iconic buildings with a modern design and have helped define the emirate as we know it today: Al Bait Sharjah Hotel is one of the most important projects.

This architecture and interior design project of Al Bait Sharjah Hotel aim to connect Sharjah’s heritage areas together, reflecting what Sharjah was like during the 1960s, and to transform it into a tourist and trade destination with contemporary design and modern artistic touches.

One of the main goals, when GAJ started to build the Al Bait Sharjah Hotel’s project, was to develop ancient houses and to transform these into luxury hotels, expensive restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and markets while preserving the local historical character of the Emirate.

In addition, this modern design project is focused on completing the economic structure in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and environmental principles, in line with the latest international standards.

Al Bait Sharjah Hotel’s project concentrates on archaeological sites and museums, the renovation of old and ancient houses, and the removal of current architectural buildings and streets in the area to build a number of hotels and tourist facilities in line with the Emirate’s plans to safeguard its national historical character.

Recognized as one of the best hotels in the United Arab Emirates, Al Bait Sharjah Hotel is a luxury escape and the new jewel of the country.
