The Emirates and Qatari Pavilions are two design masterpieces to behold in Expo 2020 Dubai. Get to know more about these pavilions designs by Santiago Calatrava, the Swiss-Spanish architect behind the design of these two iconic buildings.
The Emirates Pavilion
A Falcon Flight To The Future

Santiago Calatrava was inspired by the falcon, the national bird of the emirates, and by the region’s traditional bedouin tents. The renowned Swiss-Spanish architect masterfully united these elements and created a true architectural masterpiece. The emirates pavilion design is an iconic building, worthy of the Expo 2020 Dubai host.
“The project draws inspiration from the urban fabric from which it rises to serve as an extension of the country.”
– Micael Calatrava, the architect’s son and CEO of Calatrava International.

In the interior, each visitor can contemplate the marvelous history and a glimpse of the future of the Emirates. The pavilion’s great exhibitions are complemented by an exterior with an outdoor garden, with native trees and other important flora. Calatrava’s design managed to visually create the exclusive experience that this pavilion offers to its visitors in Expo 2020 Dubai.

“We are thrilled to unveil the UAE Pavilion to the public. The vision behind this structure took on many forms and challenged us to ensure that the result of the design represented the UAE”
The Qatari Pavilion
The Nation’s Coat Of Arms

For the marvelous Qatari pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai, Santiago Calatrava was inspired by the nation’s coat of arms. The design features its elements: The two crossed swords, a native dhow boat, and a desert island with bowing palm trees. The architect created the perfect harmony between the elements that represent Qatar with an innovative and beautiful design.
