If you are a mid-century home fan, just take a deep breath before entering this charming retreat in LA’s Coveted Mandeville Canyon.

Welcome to The Ridge, an escape from the city, situated in the highly desirable Mandeville Canyon enclave of Brentwood. This retreat was imagined as a private sanctuary with the purpose of enjoying the quintessential Southern California lifestyle.
Inspired by homes in Portugal, Spain, and the South of France. The picturesque hillside house has been redesigned and expanded from its original mid-century style 50’s ranch by the LA-based interior designer Tatum Kendrick of Studio Hus and the developer Jordan Bakva.

When entering this mid-century home, we are gifted with a central, open-air atrium that offers immediate contact with nature. A leafy olive tree on the outside sets a peaceful scene on the inside.

With sweeping glass walls, the home merges perfectly indoor and outdoor living offering the best of the California lifestyle. A lovely concern between that mid-century home and its surrounding nature is real and very well respected.

Although it was remodeled from the ground up, it was possible to keep much of its old mid-century feel and charm.
This single-story, 3,807-square-foot home with 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths was masterfully reimagined to offer a modern lifestyle. Featuring organic, nature-inspired materials and finishes they also represent countries around the world.

The heart of every home, the chef’s kitchen inspires connection. With a large center island and breakfast bar which opens to a den, ideal for a home office, a family room, or fitness space.

Beauty and experience are at the core of Tatum‘s work, who creates modern interiors with character and verve.

Privacy-focused, a master bedroom is positioned on one side of the house and the other four bedrooms are located on the other. The master bedroom is a calm and serene retreat featuring a sitting room, custom walk-in dressing room, and a spa-style bath. This master bath features a three-sided glass shower that makes us feel like we’re in an outdoor spa experience.

“For me, the attention to natural finishes and the connection to nature is very unique for a renovation project.”
Tatum Kendrick
On the outside, find the grassy yard, hand-laid stone terrace, the saltwater pool and spa with tree-lined canyon and city views.

“The outdoor living experience was envisioned to serve as a communal, creative and meditative space to energize and relax the mind while taking in the canyons views.”
Jordan Bakva

From the natural stone, which was hand-laid piece by piece, to the finishes and fixtures carefully selected for their ageless appeal, every detail of The Ridge was placed by master craftsmen.
More than a mid-century home with an astonishing first impression, this is a harmonious indoor and outdoor blending that can make life in the city much calm and easier.
With the simple idea of creating a wellness-driven design, Tatum and Jordan made an incredible design project!
