The bold design duo, Studio Job, has designed an Amsterdam flat that is part home in bold colors and design pieces for designer Nynke Tynagel, part showcase. Strong colors, daring, irreverence, and personality are the adjectives used to describe this interior design project. Impossible to look at a creation of the Studio Job and not be provoked by its forms and shapes or the home decor of apartments like this one.

The Belgian Job Smeets and the Dutch Nynke Tynagel renew with good humor this old apartment of 1922 and bring it to the future, almost 100 years later.
“This was essentially an interior commission to ourselves,” says Smeets. “It’s a very concrete situation, a way for us to put to use the midcentury furniture we collect, the contemporary work of friends and artists, and our own work – to take it out of storage and ensure that it doesn’t just sit there collecting dust. There’s no business plan, no schedule or long-term intent. The only aim is to create some kind of functional atmosphere that is still a little bit off from the normal.”

The pop and colorful style is punctuated by maxi prints and other eccentric additions, with the unmistakable touch of Studio Job: a tip-top bucket is a pendant lamp, a frame is framed by neon, the bedroom rug imitates the floor pattern.

The pieces that made Studio Job’s fame, with its criticisms of pollution and capitalism, are also there, with limited art. Look at the Pyramids of Makkum, the designers’ exquisite work with porcelain in the contemporary living room. The details that also does not go unnoticed are the bricks that completely lining the interiors. It’s a reverence for the past of building, a way to keep your story alive – even if your eyes really want to see the pop pieces that jump on the hills, to amuse and tease, as the design studio always does.
