1. Andrew Law Interior Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In business ten years, Andrew Law<\/strong> takes what he calls a \u201cclean and current\u201d approach to traditional design<\/strong>. His modern interiors<\/strong> are inspired by classical Virginia architecture, particularly Thomas Jefferson\u2019s Monticello and Poplar Forest, and almost always include a mix of antiques and\u00a0contemporary pieces<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Barry Dixon<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dixon fell in love with design early on\u2014his family lived on almost every continent when he was a child, and he enjoyed helping redecorate each time they moved. His designs blend old and new; he likes to incorporate beautiful antiques into all of his spaces. 4. Design Partners<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the business for more than 25 years, Nancy Colbert describes her style as elegant and classic but updated. Though her firm specializes in residential remodeling, her redesign of a drab condominium lobby on the edge of Georgetown into a contemporary space with LED custom-light fixtures is a recent favorite project of hers: \u201cResidents would walk into the lobby and think they were in the wrong building.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native Washingtonian, Lovejoy is a member of the Washington Design Center Hall of Fame. \u201cI like simple lines and uncluttered spaces,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Houseworks Interiors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dee Thornton, the owner of this 19-year-old firm, likes pairing unlikely colors, such as burnt orange and purple. Thornton recently used\u00a0bold colors<\/strong>\u00a0and art to give a jolt of energy to a traditional home in Alexandria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Jodi Macklin Interior Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This Washington native worked in marketing for Est\u00e9e Lauder for five years before changing gears to design. She\u2019s known for a functional, simple style. She recently designed a contemporary, two-story home in the woods using all-natural materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ireland says their work ranges from formal to relaxed. \u201cMore and more, we\u2019re\u00a0designing rooms<\/strong>\u00a0with the artwork in mind at the beginning,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11. Kelley Interior Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kelley Proxmire, who is in the Washington Design Center Hall of Fame, worked for interior designer Robert Waldron before starting her own practice 20 years ago. She describes her designs as \u201ctraditional but updated\u201d and likes to incorporate contemporary art pieces. Although she loves color, you\u2019ll never see rose or teal in her rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12. Lisa Vandenburgh Interior Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vandenburgh\u2019s love of art grew from scavenging for antiques as a child with her mother. She aims to bring a sense of fun to her\u00a0projects<\/strong>\u00a0and describes her style as \u201ccasually elegant.\u201d The furniture in her spaces is often custom-made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13. Mona Hajj Interiors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hajj, who studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, says traveling in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East shaped her aesthetic. Named one of the\u00a0top 100 designers<\/strong>\u00a0in the world by\u00a0Architectural Digest,<\/em>\u00a0Hajj describes her style as \u201cunderstated, comfortable, and relaxed.\u201d She likes to use antique rugs and fresh flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sutton\u2019s trips around the world with his father, a travel journalist, inspired him to study architecture in college. He later switched to\u00a0interior design<\/strong>\u00a0after realizing \u201cthat true design doesn\u2019t stop with the facade of a building.\u201d His interiors are warm and comfortable, and his architectural training brings technical expertise to his projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15. Raji Radhakrishnan<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Washington designer\u00a0Raji Radhakrishnan<\/strong>, who owns\u00a0Raji RM & Associates\u00a0and the online gallery and shop\u00a0Maison Et Toi, is famous for her modern and traditional interiors with a mix of styles and cultures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16. Sally Steponkus Interiors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During college, as a salesperson at the Washington Design Center\u2019s Robert Allen fabric showroom, Steponkus developed a love of fine fabrics with strong prints and patterns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

17. Sandra Meyers Design Studio<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Meyers worked for Justine Sancho before opening her design firm in 2005. Meyers says her style ranges from traditional to contemporary, local designer Barry Dixon is a strong influence on her work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

18. Thomas Pheasant<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many say Pheasant is Washington\u2019s best interior designer; one peer says his designs \u201cput Washington on the map.\u201d A regular on\u00a0Architectural Digest\u2019s\u00a0list of the\u00a0top 100 designers, Pheasant has a staff often. His elegant spaces often use neutral palettes and aim to evoke a sense of serenity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19. Victoria Neale Interiors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Neale started her design firm 12 years ago after working for Barry Dixon. Selected as one of the top 125 American designers by\u00a0House Beautiful,<\/em>\u00a0Neale gravitates toward warm shades and doesn\u2019t hesitate to use strong colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20. Zoe Feldman Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
