The return of Design Miami\/<\/strong><\/em> is set to happen next month, from December 1-5.<\/strong> Following last year\u2019s cancellation, this design event<\/strong> goes along with the revival of live art<\/strong> and design fairs.<\/strong> Exploring the theme of Human King<\/strong>, and how design<\/strong> can impact the world for the better, the famous Design Miami<\/span><\/strong> <\/em>returns for its 17th edition, with a new curatorial director, Wava Carpenter.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of the traditional location of the Miami Beach Convention Center<\/strong>, Design Miami\/ will be in Pride Park and feature more than 35 gallery<\/strong> and Curio exhibitions<\/strong> to be displayed alongside a lineup of amazing partnerships and collaborations. Besides, the fair will assume a hybrid format, standing between a physical <\/strong>and digital platform<\/strong>. All the artworks <\/strong>exhibited will be available at the fair online platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 17th edition of Design Miami\/ brings a myriad of reasons for celebration \u2013\u00a0 from returning to our home in Pride Park to our Human Kind theme, which will look at how design can play a role in shaping the world for the better. As we continue to see the collectible design market grow, in both physical and digital spaces, we\u2019re pleased to also welcome many new members to the Design Miami\/ family \u2013 galleries, curios and partners \u2013 all of which are bringing thoughtful contributions to the fair.<\/p>\nJennifer Roberts, CEO of Design Miami\/<\/strong><\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The practice of design, at its heart, has always aimed to create a better future. But in recent years, as the global challenges that humanity faces have approached existential proportions, the future that designers envision increasingly demands a fundamental reorientation of what it means to be human in this world, calling on all of us to become better stewards of nature and of each other.<\/p>\nWava Carpenter, Design Miami\/\u2019s curatorial director<\/strong><\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The main theme for this year\u2019s edition is Human Kind<\/strong>, connecting to design-led visions<\/strong> for a more equitable <\/strong>and interconnected future<\/strong>. The creative minds operating at ground-breaking design thinking<\/strong>\u00a0will bring together works, ideas, and presentations to set dialogues about the state of the world, and what direction should it follow. The participating galleries and artists <\/strong>worked to respond to this theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designers <\/strong>and collectors <\/strong>might be trying to find a way to escape from reality, as they create extraordinary forms that evoke another time and place. A rising trend<\/strong> among artists, it can find two expressions: the fantastical <\/strong>(exuberant, vibrant, and surreal), and the primordial <\/strong>(a minimalistic yet striking aura). Objective Gallery<\/strong> will display different artworks<\/strong>, produced by modern artists, exploring this duality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ceramics <\/strong>is one of the materials of the moment, working as an ideal medium for storytelling., especially autobiographical and sociological stories, which resonate deeply with audiences in this time of disruption and separation. Design Miami\/ <\/em><\/strong>will present a stone representation of both contemporary and historical ceramics, with exhibitions <\/strong>by Southern Guild<\/strong>, Friedman Benda,\u00a0Moderne Galler<\/strong><\/strong>, Mindy Solomon, <\/strong>and Hostler Burrows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the most famous galleries<\/strong> and artists will also be present at Design Miami\/<\/em><\/strong>. Thriving in the collectable design market,<\/strong> both vintage and contemporary, masterpieces by Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, George Nakashima, Harry Bertoia, Joaquim Tenreiro, and Verner Panton will be some of the stars of this year\u2019s event, while contemporary highlights are found in works by Daniel Arsham, Katie Stout, the Haas Brothers, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, Curio <\/strong>is an exhibition platform that will present a diverse range of 19 curios that question and respond to the theme of Human Kind. This platform is part of Design Miami\u2019s program and invites designers, architects, curators, innovators, and gallerists to present total environments of objects, textures, artefacts<\/strong>, and ideas <\/strong>that challenge and contextualize familiar design narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
