Before creating Shapeside<\/a><\/strong>, Genna worked with some of New York<\/em><\/strong> and LA\u2019s<\/em><\/strong> most well-respected designers<\/strong>. Genna enjoys finding new ways to merge the style of her New York roots with her love for Southern California beauty<\/strong>; resulting in a minimal <\/strong>and fun aesthetic<\/strong> with many organic elements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With luxury interiors<\/em><\/strong>, the interior designer Genna Margolis<\/em><\/strong> of Shapeside <\/em><\/strong>has crafted for a young couple with two dogs, using earthy hues<\/strong>, myriad natural surfaces<\/strong> and slubby textures<\/strong>. The transformation <\/strong>only took three months <\/strong>after the clients stumbled upon the house (a good friend lives next door) and realised it was perfect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They needed to move in rather quickly, but wanted it to feel custom-designed and elevated while being comfortable enough for everyday life.<\/em><\/p>\nGenna Margolis at Architectural Digest<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

However, it wasn\u2019t the easiest task. The final result was a moodily chic but also, supremely comfortable<\/strong> interior<\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite its enviable location<\/strong> and a generous 4,000 sq\/ft<\/strong>, it wasn\u2019t all plain sailing. In an interview for Architectural Digest<\/em><\/strong>, Margolis said that in this interior <\/em><\/strong>were challenges <\/strong>with the diverging scale of the rooms<\/strong>, for example, most of the house has incredibly high ceilings<\/strong> and well-proportioned spaces<\/strong>, but the ceiling height drops dramatically in the kitchen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to solve this problem, the interior designer removed all the upper cabinets<\/strong> and adds floating shelves<\/strong> in marble <\/strong>to match the backsplash<\/strong>, which has built-in backlighting<\/strong>. Margolis said that her favourite space is the kitchen breakfast nook<\/strong>, which serves up an interesting contrast<\/strong> between furniture that riffs off traditional silhouettes and resolutely contemporary lighting<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genna Margolis used a monochromatic style<\/strong> which makes a virtue of the intimate scale <\/strong>of the room, making it feel cosy rather than cold<\/strong>. In this interior<\/em><\/strong>, you can find bespoke furniture<\/a><\/strong>, like for example, the curved cosy sofa<\/strong> in the living room that has been paired with an ottoman-cum coffee table with an inset oak top. Other thoughtful design details include the handcrafted plaster fireplace<\/strong> and floor-to-ceiling doors <\/strong>framed with black quartzite stone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
