Milan Design Week is so much more than Salone del Mobile. Fuorisalone, roughly translated to “outside of Salone” counts with multiple design events and art exhibitions all around the city! Milan’s most important city started just a couple of days ago and from the days 9-14 April, people wander from design district to district in order to explore what the best design from all around the world has to offer.
Brera Design District
Gaetano Pesce‘s work, which literally translates as ‘suffering majesty’ is situated in prime position in front of the city’s famous cathedral during 2019’s Fuorisalone. Moooi brought a sense-tickling brand experience during this year’s Milan Design Week. Hosted at a new location in Milan’s design district Brera. “Home Sweet Home” installation curated by Angela Missoni for Missoni.
Melissa presents an artistic installation in partnership with Campana Brothers. The artwork was created with the help of many Brazilian artisan collectives, using a crocheted texture woven with plastic wires from Melissa’s production. Materi Attiva is a special multi-sensorial and immersive cave, an installation that recalls a new relationship between human and nature. At this year’s Milan Design Week, Bang & Olufsen have partnered with a renowned designer, Germans Ermičs to create a truly unique speaker concept entitled the Circle of Fifths.
Tortona Design District
Alex Chinneck‘s sculpture at Milan Design Week in partnership with IQOS. The seventeen-meter wide sculpture unzips a Milanese facade, one of the three sculptures around Fuorisalone. The artist himself says that this is the most ambitious work that he has ever made.
Leading with Light at the Superstudio Più is an immersive experience using lighting technology to showcase a vision for a more human-centered tomorrow, realized with the Japanese design studio, Rhizomatiks. ASIA DESIGN MILANO returned as the exhibition and communication project, reference platform of the Milan Design Week for the Asian creative scene.
“5 Vie” District
It happened on the 10th of April during Milan Design Week but it was simply magic, as Seletti described it! Seletti Design Pride is the most democratic party of Fuorisalone. An art exhibition during Milan Design Week that explores through art, science, and technology.
Ventura Centrale District
Porta Venezia
Voliumani by Barbara Vistarini – Dozens and dozens of small hands, like butterfly wings, will rest placid on the entrance walls of the building, waiting to take off. Butterfly lamp was shown at Doppia Firma 2019, one of the greatest events during Milan Design Week, where great artisans and artists collaborate and create complete masterpieces. Shape of Gravity the Fuorisalone installation by Nendo x WonderGlass that went live during Milan Design Week 2019.
Isola Design District
April Key presents her first lighting collection Ocean Drive, a fusion between Art Deco architecture, lighting and sculptures. Snake, the super-jointed, resistant, colored seat that can be adapted to any type of environment by Campidarte, is a design and innovative project that is unique of its kind.
The new DL Collection is their first fashion/furniture collab. Three years in the making, the project began as a casual conversation during a trip to Milan. Now launched at Milan Design Week 2019 at their solo show in the Isola Design District celebrating 12 years of producing Australian Design. BODEM is the theme of BRUT_ collective exhibition inspired by the dusty charm of an archaeological site.
