New York is one of the design mecas in the world. There are visual stimuli in every corner, breathtaking architecture and amazing interior design are very much a constant in the city that never sleeps. Despite the overwhelming beauty surrounding New York City, it’s difficult to find something truly unique and irreplicable, a place of a certain magic and wonder. This luxurious penthouse in Tribeca is the embodiment of all that, a unicorn in New York City’s design scene, step inside it and be astounded by its character. Owned by Ellen and Michael Diamant, the luxurious penthouse is just what they were looking for, something cozy yet sexy, something which incorporates New York City’s flair and a certain multiculturality .
“We wanted that loft feeling—to shift our lives from little rooms to entertaining space”
Ellen Diamant

The couple bought the penthouse structure at the top of a Tribeca building that had been the Philadelphia Cream Cheese storage warehouse in the 20s. Then came the challenge of bringing it to life with the help of Matthew Baird (Baird Architects), embracing the history of the building whilst giving it a new and modern appeal: “An old loft building with a modern apartment” as Ellen describes it.

The upstairs has a very unique concept on its own, a super-contemporary indoor-outdoor area, where city and home are connected. RKLA Studio Landscape Architecture came up with luxurious outdoor living areas, while Roger Miller Gardens orchestrated the greens turning the luxurious penthouse’s patio into an urban paradise.

For the interior design, the Diamants worked with Joan and Jayne Michaels, the sisters behind 2Michaels, a New York-based design firm with whom the couple had already worked with on three previous occasions. “ I love that they’re funny and that they don’t want to do designs that feel like a time capsule. They love mixing old and new.”, said Ellen to Architectural Digest. The luxurious penthouse has a beautifully synergy of vintage and contemporary details.

Strong colors and combined with a light color palette, industrial-inspired elements like exposed brick are mixed with warm woods, art is combined with contemporary design furniture, diverse textures fuse with different scale objects, all enhancing the architectural features of the modern apartment. 2Michaels created a cozy yet elegant space that has immense visual interest and is still livable. The luxurious penthouse in Tribeca is a great synergetic effort of creative minds and the result is an unmatched design inspiration.
