In the ever-evolving landscape of Dubai, where ambition meets artistry, Spanish designer Guillermo Blanco stands as a bridge between European craftsmanship and Middle Eastern boldness. With over three decades of experience across Madrid, London, and Ibiza, Blanco has brought to Dubai not only his design mastery but a philosophy rooted in authenticity, freedom, and emotional storytelling through space.

When Boca do Lobo opened its showroom in Jumeirah at the end of September, Guillermo Blanco was among the first to step inside. What he found was not merely a display of furniture; it was a dialogue between craftsmanship and character, a reflection of the very principles that have guided his career. “Design, for me, is about emotion,” he says. “It’s about creating spaces that move people, that tell stories without words.”

Today, from his Dubai-based studio, Guillermo Blanco continues to shape interiors that challenge convention and celebrate individuality. His journey from Spain to the UAE is not just a story of relocation, but a redefinition of what it means to design in a city that thrives on reinvention.

From Madrid to the Middle East

Blanco’s journey began in Madrid, designing restaurants and F&B spaces. His early projects taught him the balance between functionality and aesthetics. Later, in the Balearic Islands, he moved to high-end residential and hospitality projects, refining his approach to client collaboration and bespoke design.

“In Mallorca, clients welcomed creative freedom. That experience taught me to navigate expectations while pushing design boundaries,” explains Guillermo Blanco. The 2010 economic downturn in Spain forced him to reinvent himself. After exploring Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Dubai, he settled in the UAE, drawn by its connectivity, lifestyle, and creative openness.

Establishing a Presence in Dubai

Before launching his own studio, Guillermo Blanco collaborated with local firms, focusing on residential and hospitality projects. His approach emphasizes structured processes and team cultivation, ensuring projects flow seamlessly from concept to completion.

“The process is everything. Without a clear design workflow, projects stall. My role is to create a culture where design flows naturally,” says Blanco. His design philosophy aligns with Dubai’s dynamic and experimental environment, where no two buildings or interiors are alike.

A Longstanding Connection with Boca do Lobo

Blanco discovered Boca do Lobo in 2013 during a villa project in Ibiza. He was immediately drawn to the brand’s bold, identifiable aesthetic. Since then, Boca do Lobo pieces have become a staple in his residential and hospitality projects, especially in Dubai’s luxury market.

“Their style is very identifiable. You see a piece, and you know immediately it’s Boca do Lobo. It’s about creating a design language rather than following trends,” explains Guillermo Blanco.

The Power of Craftsmanship

Blanco emphasizes the fusion of European artisanal tradition with contemporary design, especially in Boca do Lobo pieces: cabinets with Portuguese ceramic tiles, bold lighting, and sculptural furniture. Each piece is functional, collectible, and stands out in any setting.

“These pieces exemplify the capacity to be timeless yet unique. That boldness keeps me inspired,” says Guillermo Blanco.

Design Philosophy: Authenticity and Identity

For Blanco, design is not only about beauty but also authenticity. Dubai provides freedom to experiment, yet maintaining a consistent design identity is key.

“True luxury comes from authenticity and the courage to maintain your design language,” he explains. His projects blend European craftsmanship with Middle Eastern tastes, resulting in spaces that are bold, elegant, and deeply personal.

Dubai as a Creative Hub

Blanco sees Dubai as a fertile ground for innovation. Its cosmopolitan community, thriving luxury market, and openness to experimentation allow designers to push boundaries. Events like Downtown Design and Index Dubai help professionals stay inspired, discover new brands, and connect with peers.

“Even in architecture, no two buildings are alike. Dubai inspires creativity in every project,” says Guillermo Blanco.

Looking Ahead: Growth and Innovation

Blanco envisions consolidating his Dubai studio, expanding projects, and continuing to innovate. He likens the studio to a growing child: careful nurturing is essential for future leaps.

“The first steps are crucial. Now it’s about maturing and preparing for the next phase,” says Guillermo Blanco. Through collaborations with Boca do Lobo and other luxury brands, he continues to shape Dubai’s design narrative, merging timeless craftsmanship with contemporary audacity.

Dubai is not just a city; it is a living canvas. A place where creativity is limitless, European craftsmanship meets local innovation, and every project tells a story of dedication, craft, and beauty,” concludes Guillermo Blanco.
