W HOTEL SOUTH BEACH PENTHOUSE
After flooding in this spectacular penthouse at South Beach, the family commissioned Sofia Joelsson Design not only to restore but also to redesign their home. The approach was to make the space more functional for the family while maintaining the grandiose views of the ocean all the way to Downtown Miami.
The SJD team opened up the kitchen to create twice the size it was before and connected it to a glass, see-through wine cellar for the family’s wine collections, who own several wineries in North Fork, Long Island. The previous color palette consisted of wenge-colored wood as well as dark green, but instead, the family wanted something beachy and bright this time. Sofia drew inspiration for the color palette from the eternal blue skies and water seen on all sides at PH.
FISHER ISLAND RESIDENCE
On the exclusive Fisher Island off the coast of South Beach Sofia designed a modern condominium in one of the island’s signature residential buildings Mediterranean Revival. The 6,000 square foot unit was completely gutted and reconfigured in an open floor plan. The flow-through unit overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Downtown Miami and is surrounded by a deep wrap-around balcony with space for entertaining and other outdoor activities.
Fully retractable pocket doors connect the interior and exterior to create a large living space that captures the ocean breezes. Inside, striped carpeting mirrors the sleek wood paneling and recessed interior lighting. The cabinets and hidden appliances in the kitchen disappear against a wall of wood paneling, which in turn contrasts with an adjacent marble wall. The unit also features a private cinema and wine cellar.

GREAT JONES – PENTHOUSE
This 2-story penthouse was designed with the developer of this new exclusive 2019 project in Noho. Sofia and her team came in early to redesign the developer’s floor plan to fit the client’s needs. They also specified all the details of the reflective ceiling to create an atmospheric ambiance, as well as sufficient lighting for the client’s museum-quality art collection, which was curated with Lisa Austin.
The furniture, mostly sourced from Italy, is the perfect blend of Europe’s finest materials and craftsmanship from suppliers such as Henge my Massimo Castagna, Minotti and Baxter.
57 OCEAN, PENTHOUSE
When developer Multiplan commissioned Sofia to envision their penthouse, which is on the market for $40 million, they set the criteria of the most spectacular oceanfront penthouse in the area with all the trimmings.
The open-concept living/dining/kitchen space is flanked by a 50-foot balcony overlooking the ocean and a 27-foot acrylic swimming pool off the entrance to this unique vision of Sofia Joelsson Design.
SAGAPONACK ESTATE
When tasked with the interior design of a sprawling estate in Sagaponack developed by Jay Bialsky, Sofia reinterpreted Jay’s vision of a custom home with entertaining in mind. The home is designed for large family gatherings and vacations. It is a family estate for today’s aristocracy. Even the in-house hair salon and gym have room for plenty. The estate has a sunken fire pit, tennis court, sculpture garden, pool house, movie theater, gym with yoga area, and wine cellar. The home has an expansive flagstone pool with daybeds and hammocks.
These are some of the wonderful projects that Sofia Joelsson and her team have worked on. The interior designer is known for her meticulous approach to design that fits perfectly into her clients’ lifestyles. She understands it and implements it by creating living spaces that not only look gorgeous but become extensions of the people who live in them. What an inspiring artist!
