Dior’s Medallion chair exhibition

The iconic Louis XVI style Medallion chair was chosen by Christian Dior to seat guests at his fashion shows, and this season, 17 famous artists and designs reimagined and recreated this iconic piece!

UP5_6 armchair by Gaetano Pesce, B&B Italia

Gaetano Pesce‘s great UP5_6 chair has been revealed in an entirely new look: cork. To be precise, it was made out of recycled bottle corks sourced from Italy. The chair is one of the many presentations to be seen at D Studio Milano, the new showroom on Via Durini, featuring portfolio brands B&B Italia, Maxalto, Azucena, Arclinea, Flos, and Louis Poulsen.

Veranda collection by Lisa Corti and Laboratorio Paravicini

The Veranda collection is born out of a collaboration between textile designer Lisa Corti and ceramics manufacturer Laboratorio Paravicini. Colourful ikats ground painterly camellias, gardenias, and peach blossoms throughout the line, which includes table linens and tabletop ceramics, and kept the spirit of Italian entertaining alive!

Aqva exhibition by Artemest

An ode to Italian artistic excellence, Aqva is a curated exhibition of bespoke artisanal pieces inspired by water. Italian design retailer Artemest challenged its impressive list of artisans from across the country to develop new pieces to be unveiled in Milan Design Week. From the Feng room divider by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna to the Cloud N.1 lamp by Biancodichina, it is clear that the concept of water can take on fresh meaning!

Patricia Urquiola transforms her Sengu sofa into a dining table, for Cassina

Patricia Urquiola, called by Cassina, transformed her Sengu sofa into a dining table, drawing inspiration from the Japanese ritual of the perennial construction and reconstruction of shrines. In an effort to celebrate the beauty of dialogue between materials, the designer used a mixture of wood, ceramics, and marbles to create the modern dining table.

“Past, Present, Future” exhibition presented by Dimoregallery.

Dimoregallery’s exhibition blends contemporaneity with elegant irreverence. In a setting devoted to the rediscovery of the work of rationalist architect Claudio Salocchi (1934-2012), we can see a mise-en-scène of his house with radically modern furniture (modular sofa, freestanding bookcase, storage desk), a Louis XV console table, and midcentury art.

Gucci Cartoleria

Gucci opened a temporary store on Via Manzoni 19, where it presented a cabinet of curiosities filled with fantasy, dubbed Gucci Cartoleria. Toy trains whiz upside-down on the ceilings, monogram canvas-patterned books float in midair, and fans open and shut at will, like animatronic characters, are some of the examples of how the space was enriched with unexpected surprises, suspended in an atmosphere of wonder.

Hermès’ Home Collection

Hermès stole a lot of attention during Milan Design Week. Taking over La Pelota venue in Brera, the luxury brand released their new home collection, with a dramatic installation design by Charlotte Macaux Perelman. Materials are the major focus of this luxury collection, playing on raw and natural materials, incorporating unique expertise and know-how.

Guiltless Plastic by Rossana Orlandi

To present at Milan Design Week, Rossana Orlandi has selected a series of objects and design ideas that are recycled or recyclable. Entitled “Guiltless Plastic”, it is born from the idea that plastic isn’t the guilty element, on the contrary, Orlandi believes plastic waste can easily be considered one of the biggest resources available with the potential to be transformed, so it’s fundamental to promote the recycling and upcycling of plastic in design.

Bulgari’s Metamorphosis interpretations

Bulgari asked four artists to represent their own ideas and points of view of Metamorphosis at Galleria D’Art Moderna (GAM), during Milan Design Week. With the idea that “metamorphosis is the most revolutionary and profound accomplishment in the life of a person, a society or the world at large, and art and design are its main interpreters” in mind, Azuma Makoto, Daan Roosegaarde, Ann Veronica Janssens, and Vincent Van Duysen show their interpretation on this theme, with diverse installations.

Valentino and Graydon Carter’s Newsstand

On Via Dei Giardini, Valentino opened a newsstand to offer their own riffs on the vernacular structure. Valentino’s theatrical display gives a lift to their Zendaya campaign while offering an exclusive preview of the new V Logo Signature book.

GRAYDON CARTER’S AIRMAIL LANDS IN MILAN’S MOST FAMOUS NEWSSTAND

AirMail x Largo Treves not only brings the culture and aesthetic of AIRMAIL to one of Milan’s most vibrant intersections but is instrumental in supporting the City of Milan’s mission to keep the tradition of newsstands alive. After being closed for nearly 2 years, Mr Prestinari, the long-time favourite news agent to Milan’s international fashion and creative class, will now be able to continue his expert curation of global fashion, lifestyle, art, design and news publications and make them available to the Milanese public.

The best of Milanese Museums At Milan Design Week

When it comes to things one must-see in Milan, museums always come on the list, such as the Triennale art and design museum, and Fondazione ICA Milano. The first is showcasing an exhibition of furniture by Italian architect Carlo Mollino, while on the second one you can see Michael Anastassiades’s solo exhibition “Cheerfully Optimistic About the Future”, where the designer has installed a forest of poetic light fixtures made with bamboo.
